- In your name as the policyholder - not as a named driver
- Issued by your previous insurer in the UK
- Less than 24 months old (showing the date the policy ended) – the only exception is if you are in the Armed Forces, and you were working overseas
- Earned in the UK on a private car, van (on a single vehicle policy) or motorcycle (you must be at least 22 years old for us to accept this type of proof)
- Earned on a UK or EU license
- Not being used on insurance for another vehicle

Power of attorney
This is a legal document that lets a person choose one or more people to act on their behalf, if they’re unable to – e.g. to deal with banks, utilities and insurance.
To record a Power of attorney with us, you’ll need to send the following to help@swiftcover.com:
- A certified copy of the document
- Policy numbers of the policies they have with us
You can also use a lasting power of attorney, all we need is your access code to view your documents. For more information on how to get an access code, visit the government website.
If we need anything else from you, we’ll be in touch.
We’ll continue to send documents to the policyholder (such as renewal invites), unless you tell us otherwise.

Trusted alternative contact
If you’re finding it difficult to talk to with us, we can speak with someone else on your behalf if you would prefer. We call this a trusted alternative contact.
An alternative contact is someone that you as the policyholder can nominate to act for you. This contact is authorised to talk to us, for any reason, you are unable to. They can discuss your policy, any claims and can make changes on your policy for you - the only thing they can’t do is cancel the policy, as we’ll still need to speak to the policyholder for that.

If you’d like to cancel the policy following a bereavement
Anyone associated with the policy holder, including family, friends and neighbours, and named driver can cancel the policy. There will be no cancellation fees when cancelling. However, we can only give policy information to the policy holder’s spouse or partner, next of kin, executor or alternative contact on the policy.
If you’d like to keep the policy following a bereavement
We can keep your cover running until the renewal date, as long as there’s at least one named driver on the policy that will carry on using the car. However, no changes can be made to the policy, like adding another driver.
We can keep the policy in place for 30 days to give you time to sell the car or arrange other cover.
You’ll be asked a few questions when you get in touch with us, but we aim to make the process as easy as possible, as we understand it may be a difficult time.
